AI detection for teachers and universities, with evidence a student can answer
In shortProofVerity reads essays and theses sentence by sentence, resolves every citation, and gives the student the same evidence the teacher sees. Departments set thresholds and policy; nobody receives a verdict from a single number.
The problem with a single score
A "72% AI" badge on an essay cannot be discussed, appealed or learned from. It also fails most often on the students least able to contest it: non-native writers and those taught to write formulaically. ProofVerity does not produce that number. It marks passages, shows why, and states the error rate.
What a teacher sees
- The essay, with flagged sentences and the probability for each.
- The evidence for every flag: rhythm, vocabulary, marker phrases, style break against the student’s own paragraphs.
- Every citation resolved: verified, not found, misquoted or misattributed, with the nearest match.
- Embedded images checked for generation and alteration.
- A class overview: which submissions need a look, which do not.
What a student sees
The same page. The student-facing evidence view shows the flagged sentences, the signals and the citation results, so a student can respond to something specific: a draft, a source, a note. Most cases end in a conversation, not a hearing.
Setting department policy
- Thresholds per course or programme, not per panic.
- A required human review before anything reaches a student record.
- An appeal path that uses the evidence view.
- A written statement to students about what is checked and what is not.
Batches and the LMS
Assignments can be checked in bulk from the LMS or a folder, with per-course settings and one report per submission. Results are pinned to the page and export as annotated PDFs with an evidence appendix, ready for a file.

A fair process in five steps
- Tell students in advance what is checked and how results are used.
- Read the flags and the citation results together; one invented reference weighs more than three flat sentences.
- Ask for drafts or a short conversation before any decision.
- Record the decision in the report and keep the annotated PDF.
- Review thresholds each term against real outcomes.
